Dear TEG Members,
We are excited to share a significant milestone for our industry. In our first advocacy meeting with the TEG Board and the Dubai Chamber of Commerce, we successfully engaged in meaningful discussions to address key industry challenges based on member’s feedback. This marks a crucial step in ensuring our sector evolves with modern business practices and regulatory efficiencies.
Key Topics Addressed
Permits & Licensing – The current system for permits and e-permits is overly complex, leading to unnecessary fines and delays. We emphasized the need for a more streamlined, flexible, and simplified process, moving away from outdated administrative practices.
Import & Export for EventsÂ
Bringing in and taking out goods, equipment, and event-related materials remains unmanageable, involving multiple authorities and excessive permits. We urged an updated, unified system that reduces red tape and aligns with global standards.
Events IP ProtectionÂ
Intellectual property in our industry—concepts, designs, and performances—lacks adequate protection. We raised concerns about the unethical practice of idea theft and stressed the need for stronger IP protection frameworks to ensure fair business practices.
Delayed Payments & Stringent Terms
One of the most pressing concerns in the industry is the lack of timely payments, which creates a ripple effect across the entire value chain. SMEs, in particular, are struggling with cash flow issues due to clients delaying payments beyond agreed terms. This financial strain is making it difficult for businesses to operate sustainably. We highlighted the need for fairer terms to ensure a healthier and more reliable business environment.Â
Building a Data-Driven Events Industry in the UAEÂ
Accurate data collection is essential for the UAE’s events industry to measure economic impact, benchmark globally, and drive growth. Partnering with Dubai Digital and Dubai Statistics Center will ensure standardized insights that enhance policymaking and business strategies. A centralized data framework will solidify the UAE’s leading global events hub position.
What’s Next?
Following our discussions, the advocacy teams are already engaging with the relevant authorities and arranging follow-up meetings with the respective government bodies. These sessions will allow us to address each issue in detail and work towards practical solutions that will benefit our industry. Our goal is to ensure that the concerns raised are tackled with accuracy and efficiency, leading to meaningful improvements in all key issues discussed.Â
We will keep you updated on the progress and next steps. Your continued support and insights are essential as we push for positive change.
